Bethany Spiller is a licensed doctoral psychologist and co-owner of Grove Park Psychological Associates, PLLC. She has been in private practice in Memphis since 2004. She earned her psychology undergraduate degree from Rhodes College and her doctoral degree from the University of Tennessee. She completed her pre-doctoral psychology internship in general psychology and her post-doctoral fellowship in clinical medical psychology, both at the VA Medical Center in Memphis. In addition to her private practice work, she previously worked as a staff psychologist at the Memphis VA Medical Center and The Med’s Psychiatric Emergency Center. She also served as a clinical director at Focus Treatment Center for Eating Disorders.

Bethany welcomes patients who present for a variety of reasons including anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, mood disorders due to chronic medical conditions, early recovery from addiction, spiritual issues, life transitions such as retirement and “empty nest,” and relationship difficulties. Bethany has a longstanding interest and training in the treatment of disordered eating. She accepts patients who are just beginning their recovery in ED and those who are stepping down from a higher level of care.

Bethany’s clinical orientation with patients is eclectic. She uses analytic theory for case conceptualization, yet employs tenets from both depth psychology and systems theory to guide treatment. The therapeutic relationship is seen as the primary vehicle for change so careful attention is given to build a rapport with each patient that is safe, supportive, and resilient. Therapy is considered a collaborative exercise, and patients are seen as vital and equal participants. Hence, both parties show up committed to the honest exploration of the human psyche, an endeavor that is always challenging, meaningful, and ultimately healing.
